What is Sciatica?
Sciatica is a term used to describe nerve pain in the leg originating in the lower back, radiates deep into the buttock, and travels down the leg.
Sciatica typically has the following symptoms:
- Pain. Sciatica pain commonly can be a constant burning sensation or a shooting pain starting in the lower back or buttock and radiating down the front or back of the thigh and leg and/or feet.
- Numbness. May be accompanied by numbness in the back of the leg. Sometimes, tingling/weakness.
- One-sided symptoms. Commonly affects one leg, however in some rare occasions, affect both legs.
- Posture/activity induced symptoms. Pain during sitting or getting up, twisting the spine, and/or while coughing. .
